Around 94% of sports betting deposits made by Brazilians between January and February of 2025, the first two months with the iGaming market fully regulated in Brazil, were up to R$100. The data comes from a research conducted by Pay4Fun and is based on transactions carried out at online betting houses intermediated by the company.

Transactions that exceed R$ 1,000, on the other hand, represent only 1.4% of the total. Deposits above R$ 2,500 corresponded to less than 0.3%.

Payment methods

The most widely used payment method by online bettors in Brazil is Pix, an instant payment system developed by Brazil’s Central Bank that allows fast, free, and secure money transfers 24/7 using keys like phone numbers or email addresses. According to the survey, the instant payment system accounts for 96.72% of transactions carried out on betting platforms from January to December 2024.

Other payment methods have a much lower adoption rate. Electronic wallets, for instance, account for only 1.47% of transactions, bank transfers for 1.36%, and bank slips for 0.45%.

According to a research from Raio X do Investidor Brasileiro, conducted by the Brazilian Association of Financial and Capital Market Entities (Anbima) and Datafolha, Brazilian bettors spend, on average, R$ 216 per month on bets.

Given that more than 15% of Brazilians, or over 23 million people, made at least one sporting bet in 2024, it is estimated that over R$ 20 billion are already being wagered monthly in betting platforms in Brazil. The Central Bank of Brazil (CBC) indicates that close to 93% of this money ends up returning to bettors as prizes.

Who bets in Brazil?

The survey also investigated the profile of the Brazilian bettor. Regarding sex and age, the majority identified as men from generation Z (16 to 28 years old). As to social class, 16% of bettors are from classes A and B, while 17% are from class C and 10% from classes D and E.

“The assessment that bets are related to the lower classes is not true“, said Marcelo Billi, superintendent of sustainability, innovation and education at Anbima.

Traffic to betting platforms

After Brazil changed its legislation and regulations in the last year, the traffic in betting platforms increased 90%. According to a survey conducted by the website Aposta Legal, iGaming sites received more than 5 billion visits in the first quarter of 2025. This volume of visits is equivalent to over 650 pages accessed per second.

According to the Betting Management System (Sigap), which began overseeing the activities of this industry in the country, in just over three months, the system monitored millions of data points from legalized gambling companies.

Sigap was developed by the Federal Data Processing Service (Serpro) for the SPA, part of the Ministry of Finance. “With just three months since operators started sending data, the system has already received approximately 500,000 sports betting files, 330,000 online gaming files, 600,000 wallet files, and 260,000 bettor records, totaling 1.69 million files in the database. This represents an average of 500 million daily records (each file can contain up to 7,000 records), with 77 authorized operators and 174 brands operating in this sector,” explained Kamila Duarte, manager at Serpro.
